Common Core Standards
Grade 5
Writing W.5.3
Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.
What fifth grader doesn't like telling a tall tale or two? With this standard, you'll be helping your students create narratives (both fictional and nonfictional) that unfold in a logical manner and employ basic literary techniques. Because this standard is identical to the one used in the fourth grade, your students should already be familiar with the fundamental concepts here.
