Thank you Responsibility to your family Allah shmoop family's heir

the worst Are we right Where are we Right Well
- 00:09
that's going to melanie anyway Who could take or leave
- 00:12
hers there Okay or what Abs Like they put a

roof over her head and make sure she's clothed and

fed and love her unconditionally But other than that what
- 00:21
are they good for They're like so embarrassing They're always
- 00:25
making dumb jokes when she has friends over or showing
- 00:28
random people naked baby pictures of her or just being
- 00:31
totally out of touch and dumb So melanie does whatever
- 00:34
she can to distance herself from them He makes every
- 00:37
effort to disobey the rules they set if curfew's at
- 00:40
nine she's out till eleven If her mom asked her
- 00:42
to text and let her know where she is she
- 00:45
completely forgets And she hasn't done a household chore since
- 00:49
that one time she decided to do the dishes just
- 00:51
because you know because well it made her hands feel
- 00:54
warm and she doesn't show her little brother any consideration
- 00:57
either Total waste of space that one get older grow
- 01:00
a brain and then maybe she'll give him the time
- 01:02
Of day well in the meantime she'll just get off
- 01:05
on making her brother feel alone and ignored and making
- 01:07
her parents worried and distraught beyond belief because hey at
- 01:11
least it's more interesting than a meal together at the
- 01:14
dinner table or family game night monopoly So one day
- 01:18
melanie's driving to the mall and she's on the phone
- 01:20
with her bestie britney who she's going to be seeing
- 01:22
in like five minutes But whatever she's griping about whatever
- 01:25
stupid thing her parents i've done lately to make her
- 01:27
miserable and just as she's getting really into it she
- 01:31
hears a thud and then another thud What now Well
- 01:34
normally melanie would just keep on driving but some people
- 01:37
outside are screaming like they just broke their cellphones Don't
- 01:41
you figure she better pull over and see what's up
- 01:43
Well here's what's up melanie on her phone illegally and
- 01:47
paying zero attention Anything around her just plowed through two
- 01:50
kids who are in a crosswalk One of them will
- 01:52
be in critical condition but we'll pull through the other
- 01:55
one Not so much So what happens now Well melanie's
- 02:01
A minor She gets her license taken away And it's
- 02:03
Pretty much going to screw up her life in a
- 02:05
variety of ways but not just her life Her parents
- 02:09
will now be totally destitute after having to pay damages
- 02:12
for her irresponsible actions cause yeah she's under eighteen so
- 02:16
her parents are responsible for all that stuff That's why
- 02:18
they set rules in the first place and why it
- 02:20
was so important for her to follow him But she
- 02:22
didn't Her little brother gets isolated and shunned by his
- 02:25
pierre since he's the brother of that girl you know
- 02:28
the one who killed the kid Oh and his hopes
- 02:30
of going to college Well not so much anymore They
- 02:32
have no money Her mother and father start fighting like
- 02:35
cats and dogs thanks to the mess that is now
- 02:37
their lives and a divorce follows lives and shambles depression
- 02:41
hurt anger Thank goodness it was just her stupid family
- 02:45
But wait what's that a tear or two We see
- 02:47
Well turns out that despite the show she put on
- 02:50
melanie actually cares about the folks she's been forced to
- 02:52
live with all her life It can be fun to
- 02:54
complain but when it comes right down to it these
- 02:57
people are your blood they're the only people who love
- 02:59
you as much as they love themselves who would do
- 03:01
anything for you and it doesn't pay to take that
- 03:04
responsibility lightly even though melanie was just the kid well
- 03:08
it doesn't mean she didn't have the power to totally
- 03:10
tear apart the family and okay so not every situation
- 03:14
ends in death destitution and divorce like we're illustrating here
- 03:18
but a family is a single unit Melanie had a
- 03:20
responsibility to contribute to that unit to be a part
- 03:23
of it and to look out for its preservation by
- 03:26
being responsible in all other aspects of her life and
- 03:29
she wasn't and look what happened she chose instead to
- 03:32
harp on what annoyed her about them and to do
- 03:34
so while driving great called mail one day Maybe she'll
- 03:37
grow up somehow move on from the devastation she's caused
- 03:41
and have a family of her own Hopefully her kids
- 03:43
can learn from her mistakes and exhibit a sense of
- 03:45
responsibility to their mother into the rest of their family
- 03:48
and hopefully they'll learn to pull over before making that 00:03:50.943 --> [endTime] phone call
