I versus me a la Shmoop If youve ever spent a day at school in

00:04

your life which we certainly hope you have youve probably heard the following Kelly So

00:08

then like me and Veronica went to the cat fashion show-- Teacher ah ah ah

00:12

Veronica and I.

00:14

The problem though is that some students will go overboard and start changing everything to

00:19

I For example whats right this is between you and me or this is between

00:23

you and I To answer this question weve got to get back to the basics.

00:27

I and me are both pronouns which means theyre words that take the place of nouns.

00:32

And theres just one difference I always takes the place of a subject and me

00:36

always takes the place of an object.

00:39

For example take George and Kelly over here.

00:42

Lets say George says to Kelly I love you.

00:45

unless he gets very nervous in which case he might accidentally say me love you.

00:49

George is the subject hes the person doing the action the loving in the sentence.

00:53

So naturally he uses I instead of me.

00:56

Now the same thing applies of course if theres more than one subject.

01:00

George Kelly and I are going to the rodeo this weekend to taunt some bulls.

01:05

You could also just think of it like this If its the subject of the

01:09

sentence its going to be I.

01:11

If its not the subject of the sentence its gonna be me.

01:15

Thank you Justin Timberlake. NOTE end of file
