This scene is the culmination of Anakin's complete collapse of faith in not only his mentor but the love of his life as well. In scenes that got cut from the final edit of the film, George Lucas had played up Anakin's suspicions that Padmé was having an affair with Obi-Wan, so when he emerges from Padmé's ship, all of his fears are confirmed.
