Jack Cade Timeline and Summary
MoreJack Cade Timeline and Summary
- 3.1: We don't see Cade, but we hear of him. York tells us he's hired a commoner to get in good with the common folk and stir up trouble in London. He'll pretend to be John Mortimer, who is dead but has a claim to the throne. Once Cade forms an army of commoners, York will return from Ireland and take control of the army.
- 4.2: Cade's working his magic with the crowd, telling them that he's Mortimer. Too bad his buddies know he's no more royalty than they are. That doesn't stop anyone from joining Cade's army and fighting against the nobles, though.
- 4.3: Cade's gang has killed Lord Stafford and his brother since they were trying to stop the rebellion. Next stop: London.
- 4.6: The army is getting stronger day by day. Cade and his men have taken London Bridge, and now they're working on the Tower of London.
- 4.7: Jack Cade and company confront Lord Saye. His crime? Teaching people grammar and how to read and write. It's not fair that the only the nobles know these things, so the commoners kill Saye in retaliation.
- 4.8: Still going strong, Cade and his army are pressing on and growing in number. When they meet Buckingham and Clifford, the army decides to go back to the king again. Then Cade makes a speech, and his army is back on his side. But anyone can make a speech, so Buckingham and Clifford give it a try. The army sides with the king, and Cade is surprised and dejected. He totally runs away.
- 4.10: Hungry and weak, Cade comes across Iden's house and pops in—okay, breaks in—for some food. Iden finds him and says he doesn't want to hurt Cade. It's no use: Cade challenges him, and of course, Iden wins, since Cade hasn't eaten in like five days. Cade asks to be remembered as brave.
- 5.1: Iden takes Cade's head to the king as proof of his death. Then he gets knighted for killing Henry's enemy.
