Character Analysis
Let’s be frank; Castel doesn’t do much else in this novel besides talk about serum, lament the absence of serum, design a serum, and try it out on people. He’s Mr. Anti-Plague Serum. But this is an important feat during an outbreak of a plague, and an even more important feat in this particular novel. Why? Because it represents struggle against pestilence – the take-home lesson is that you should all do this too. So there you go kids. Be like Dr. Castel.
