We didn't need to think too hard about this one. Our title character, narrator, and hero, Black Beauty is pretty much the dictionary definition of a protagonist. With his engaging way of storytelling and his brave, genuinely good nature, he's easy to love. Whether he's racing to help someone, overworked by a cruel master, or pulling a London cab, we're rooting for him all the way.
