Value-Added Network (VAN)

Categories: Tech

At the height of the Cold War, a dedicated phone line was installed between Washington and Moscow. If tensions rose and things seemed like they were tilting toward total nuclear annihilation, leaders of both countries could pick up the phone and talk it out.

Value-added networks operate in the same vein. Only, instead of connecting geo-politial rivals, they connect companies with suppliers, or groups of companies in the same industry. They represent closed communication loops meant to connect related companies. Communicating through the VAN is more secure and more direct than just sending a regular email.
