Total Quality Management - TQM

Categories: Company Management

This one comes off as a little buzz-wordy. Hearing someone talk about Total Quality Management sparks the same emotions as hearing someone who just had their chakras opened at an ashram, or listening to someone who just discovered the works of David Foster Wallace. It's a little culty. A little jargony. But...that doesn't mean it doesn't work, right?

The basic premise behind TQM is that the management team and the employees at a company both commit to a process of continuous improvement. It seeks to break a company's organization into its component operations, and then find ways to make those operations better.

Oof. Yeah. And that summary just gets into the overview. The details really make it sound like a corporate retreat where people sit on pillows, stare deeply into each other's eyes, and recite passages from Think and Grow Rich. But you have to admit...the premise sounds promising.
