The Infinite Shelf
Imagine everything being sold on Amazon on shelves in a white, endless room (like in the Matrix). This is “the infinite shelf,” which juxtaposes the near-limitless amount of stuff you can buy online with the very-limited amount of stuff you can by at brick-and-mortar stores.
The idea is that, with the infinite shelf of e-commerce stores, there’s a much wider range of products and options available to consumers. Since space isn’t an issue, there’s more products, larger products, and a wider range of types of products. Again, pretty much like in the Matrix where Neo and Trinity get their pick at all the guns in the world.
