Stockholder
Categories: Incorporation, Stocks, Board of Directors
Someone who owns stocks.
It's ridiculously easy to become a stockholder. Just call up your bank, financial institution, or broker and slap down some cash to purchase a stock. Ta-da! You're a stockholder. You could be eight years old and still dealing with allowances and braces, but you can own a bit of a company owned by millionaires.
Depending on the type of stock you buy, you have certain rights as a stockholder. For example, some stocks let you vote on company decisions, while others guarantee you a dividend or money paid out every year.
