A person with an overly inflated ego and sense of self-importance, while hiding a self-esteem that’s ready to crack like a vase in the hands of a toddler.
A narcissist likes to be the center of attention. Me, me, me. I, I, I. He/she needs constant positive reinforcement and will make ridiculous claims, like being able to walk on water, eat bullets, etc. Narcissists also suck at taking any type of criticism. Remember: fragile self-esteem. As a matter of fact, NPDs may see criticism where there isn’t any.
“Hey man, careful, there’s a dip in the ground over there.”
To which the narcissist may respond, “Oh, so you’re saying I’m clumsy and stupid?”
“Uh, no, that’s not it.”
“Oh, and now I’m deaf and don’t understand what you’re saying?”
“I didn’t say that.”
“No, but you implied it.”
“I just didn’t want you to sprain your ankle.”
“Because you think I can’t walk right? I can’t do anything right? That’s it, isn’t it? You think I’m worthless!”
Basically, NPDs tend to be attention-seeking, self-centered, manipulative, controlling, and arrogant beyond belief. Great fun at parties.
