It's a fund: money pooled from (usually) a range of investors who all care about skinny polar bears. They care about the environment, the planet, the world beyond their own selfish means, and they want to invest in things that make the world a better place environmentally.

Wind power. Solar. Maybe even genetically enhanced hamsters on giant, electricity-generating wheels. We're still experimenting.
