Graham-Cassidy Healthcare Bill
Categories: Regulations, Tax
The Graham-Cassidy healthcare bill was an amendment made to the American Health Care Act that would repeal the Affordable Care Act (or ACA, i.e. Obamacare), give states control of Medicaid, and limit the money flowing in.
The amendment was drafted in late 2017, but the bill was never put up for a vote on the Senate floor. In Congress, proponents were mostly Republicans, arguing that the bill would make the whole healthcare-government-setup more efficient, and opponents were mostly Democrats, who argued this would pull the plug on healthcare for too many Americans. Some of the largest lobbying groups in the U.S., such as Blue Cross Blue Shield and AARP, were not down with the amendment.
The bill never made it to a vote, since a handful of Republicans signaled that they wouldn’t vote for it, which means the bill would have not passed a vote on the Senate floor.
