See equity funds. It's is a type of index or mutual fund that is made up mostly of stocks. But not just any stocks: You're investing in companies that are usually fairly established and are pretty good about creating income for investing by paying our dividends regularly.

A typical equity income fund holding might be Heinz or AT&T or Pfizer, which are all well-developed companies growing at relatively slow rates but which have lots of "excess" cash to give back to investors.
