The Housing Affordability Index tracks the ability of a typical American family to get a mortgage at any given time. Put out by the National Association of Realtors, the index comprises data related to home prices and to personal income data. The report, put out on a monthly basis, measures national trends, but includes data on individual metro areas as well.
